Why You Should Talk Less And Take More Action
Let’s talk about why you should talk less and take more action.
And more to the point, I strongly believe this:
Talk more about what you’ve DONE, not what you’re going to do
We live in a time where social media rules all.
And it’s very easy to talk about all the things you want to do.
It doesn’t take much to write a status these days that bring in the ‘likes’ and comments of “go you hun xoxo #inspirational”.
Which brings me to a fantastic point I read in a book last year.
(I cannot for the life of me remember which one – it’s either Ego Is The Enemy or The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck)
It goes something like this:
It’s very easy to put up a status on social media outlining all the amazing things you are going to do in the future.
Like – I’m going to lose X amount of weight and transform my body, I’m going to do X,Y or Z in business and be successful etc.
Downfall Of Talk With No Action
But the big problem here is the social gratification this brings with it.
These statuses bring in all the social recognition (online pat on the back/well done) in the forms of Likes, Comments etc.
So without actually doing a single thing apart from writing a few words, you now have received praise and gratification.
And this causes a big problem.
You see, emotionally you have just received the boost, the praise, the ‘well done’.
So the big issue here is that the actually act of carrying out what you said you would do now has a lesser reward.
(I hope this is making some form of sense).
The appeal to actually take action and do all the things are now less motivating.
Because you’ve already received the highs of gratification without doing anything.
And in the world of social media, no one ever really calls you out on the bullsh*t.
You get all the pats on the back but no one ever asks “hey, did you ever do any of that?”.
So you slide along under the radar without taking action to building a better life.
Avoid The Trap And Take Action
Hopefully that has struck some bit of a chord with you.
It’s a very common scenario we see daily.
And it can be a trap that slow seeps into your lives and prevents us from pushing on.
The best possible way to make progress in life is to simply start by putting one foot in front of the other.
If you want to lose 20 Ibs, start by losing 1 first.
Want to build a better business or life for yourself?
Start by doing 1 thing a day that moves you closer to your goals.
Because the longer you talk about it, the less time you actually spend doing.
And the last thing any of us want is to look back and see we sat there, spinning our wheels while going nowhere.
Instead, get out and just do it.
You will never regret going for it.
Then you can look back and talk about what you’ve accomplished.
Break Free From Your Comfort Zone
I’m due to do a few talks over the coming months.
And nothing is more terrifying than public speaking.
But I’m saying Yes to all of it.
I’ll just figure it out later.
Because no matter how much I fear it now, I know in years to come it will have had a positive impact for me.
One of the big things for making positive changes in your life is to take action.
Many times in order to do so, you will have to step outside your comfort zone.
You will have to take a chance in life and see how it all pans out.
But if you choose to sit back and just talk about all the things you would like/wish to do, you’ll never get it done.
Think less, Talk less and just go for it.
Action will always speak louder than words.
Well that’s what an ex-girlfriend used say anyways.
